FAQs...
- How many t-shirts do I need to make a blanket? It's up to you! I've made blankets with 4 shirts, 90 shirts and everything in between. I'm happy to work with however many you have. Keep in mind that the size of the blanket is somewhat dictated by the amount of shirts.
- What size blankets do you offer? I work with each individual customer and their shirts. Depending on the number of shirts you have and the purpose of the blanket, we work together to approximate the finished size of the blanket.
- How much does a t-shirt blanket cost? The cost is $22 per shirt side used. If we decide to use both the front and back of a shirt, that counts as 2. The cost includes all the materials necessary to finish your blanket.
- Why do you call it a blanket and not a quilt? Quilts are made by binding 3 layers together: a top layer (the shirts), a cotton bottom layer and a batting layer (stuffing) in between for warmth and structure. The 3 layers are then "quilted" together by sewing a pattern throughout, holding the layers together. My blankets only have 2 layers. The batting layer is not needed since the fleece or sweatshirt adds the warmth and structure. It is also not necessary to sew the layers together. Overall, it is a more contemporary look and feel, and saves you the cost of quilting.
- Can I use the back of the shirt? Of course. Any part of the shirt can be used.
- Can I use sweatshirts? Definitely! Jeans, tank tops, jerseys, shorts, flannel pants, pj's, bedding, costumes, boxer shorts and baby clothes too! Contact us if you have any questions.
- How do you know what part of the shirt to use? Please pin (do not tape) a note with special instructions to any shirt. Without a note, I will use the front shirt logo. If there is no front, I will use the back.
- Should I wash my shirts? Yes, please wash all shirts, old and new alike. A stain on a shirt just adds to memories of the shirt.
- Should I cut my shirts? Please DO NOT cut your shirts. I will do all of the work necessary.
- Do you use interfacing? Yes, interfacing is ironed onto the back of each shirt. It stabilizes the shirts so they don't stretch and improves the durability of the blanket.
- What is used for the back of the blanket? Your choice of either sweatshirt or fleece, and color.
- Is the blanket machine washable? Yes, however I recommend dry cleaning for best results. If you are going to machine wash your blanket, use cold water, gentle cycle with a mild detergent. Hang dry or tumble at the lowest temperature possible. Do not iron the blanket – the ink on the shirts will melt.
- How long will it take to make my blanket? Please allow 16 - 20 weeks for delivery. I usually have a long waiting list. If you would like to be put on the no obligation list to reserve a spot, please contact us. Quality has it's price!
- Where do I send my shirts? Shipping and instructions will be emailed to you within 24 hours of contacting us. If you are local to the Chicago area, you can bring us your shirts to avoid shipping costs.
- How is my blanket shipped to me? USPS, priority mail. Shipping is $20. Again, if you are local to the Chicago area, you can pick up your blanket when it is finished.
- What is your return policy? Due to the custom nature of t-shirt blankets, they are not returnable or refundable.
- How do I pay for my blanket? We accept cash, check, Zelle or Venmo. When the blanket is finished, you will receive an email/text with a picture. Your item will be shipped when payment is received.
